Developing a commercialisation strategy for the Vuna technology

Challenge: how to bring the circular Vuna technology from the lab into the world

The Swiss Research Institute Eawag asked The User’s Advocate to develop a commercialization strategy for one of their innovations: Vuna. This technology enables decentralized sanitation in buildings - recapturing nutrients from urine on-site, turning it into high quality fertilizer, creating autonomous building solutions that meet the circular economy philosophy.

The project applied a human-centered approach in order to explore and assess the technology’s value chain, practical implementation and market potential. In total, three business models were developed and tested, more than 30 experts from various industries were interviewed in five different countries. The result was a commercialization strategy and implementation roadmap that guides Eawag in the commercial development of their technology.
